Born and raised in Oregon, specifically the Portland Metro area, Karsyn has loved exploring Central Oregon for the past two years. She first recognized the meaningful impact that a mentor has through adults in her own life and discovered her own love of mentoring by becoming a summer camp and youth group leader. Karsyn later became an intern, Program Manager, and volunteer mentor through a non-profit mentoring organization in Portland and was thrilled at the idea of being a Professional Friend, where she can develop long-term, intentional relationships with youth in her community.
Karsyn received her degree in Child, Youth, and Family Studies from Portland State University. Through serving families and children in remote villages in Mexico and SE Asia, she learned the value of connection across language barriers and diverse backgrounds. She comes from a background of ensuring child safety and assisting in providing families with helpful community resources. Karsyn hopes to use her experience working with families and children in various capacities to foster positive relationships through Friends of the Children and is honored to serve in this role.
