Summer Volunteer Opportunities

At Friends of the Children – Central Oregon, we believe in the power of consistent, caring relationships to help youth reach their full potential. Volunteers like you play a vital role in supporting our programs—from 1:1 literacy tutoring to hands-on enrichment activities to behind-the-scenes event support.

Currently we are looking for volunteers for one-time and ongoing activities.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunity:

Summer Literacy Tutoring: Friend of the Children Central Oregon will be holding summer literacy tutoring for our youth ages 4-9 for 7 weeks this summer in July and August. Our youth are resilient and ready to learn with loving, snack filled, one on one tutoring. We are looking for volunteers willing to commit to at least 1 hour weekly. All volunteers will be trained on the curriculum & give a brief overview of trauma informed teaching. You will be partnered one on one with a child and often their mentor to play games, practices the tricky parts of words, and read decodable books. We will offer tutoring times in Bend on Monday and Tuesdays, in La Pine on Thursdays, and in Redmond on Fridays this summer.

One-Time Volunteer Opportunities:

Summer Enrichment Days/Camps & Event Support: We offer a variety of one-time volunteer opportunities, ranging from youth-centered enrichment days and camps to event-specific roles. Whether you're excited to get creative at art camp, stay active during Sports Day, or help ensure an event runs smoothly, there’s a perfect way for you to get involved!
